--SKATEBOARDING IS NOT A CRIME--
We've all heard that one before, some of you may even have merchandise from Santa Cruz w/ that phrase. Well, by God that is one of the best things I've heard in a while...because, well...it's true. It's like saying, "Hey man, that water is wet." See, I got my idea for this site about a week before I made it (July 24, 2000) I was on vacation at the beach in North Carolina. My family was staying at a resort w/ pools, tennis and baskeball courts, they even had their own private beach. They also had a few security guards who manned the entrance gate every so often (between donut breaks) So one afternoon after we went to the beach, me and my friend decided to go skate outside in the parking lot. I was just gonna work on my heelflip I had learned recently. So we go out and are there for like 30 minutes. Then all of a sudden my friend sees this cop walkin up to us. My friend was like, "Dude....this is not good..." So I avoid eye contact w/ him until he is like right up in my face. I look up at 'em and I'm like, "Yeah?" He looks at me and says through his big wire frame sunglasses, "Um, North Carolina state law prohibits skateboarding on public property, son. I'm gonna have to ask you to put that board away." So I kinda look at my friend and then look back at the cop, I shrug my shoulders. "Why is that?" I ask. Then he gets this panicked look on his face and is like, "Well uh...you see...uh...it's the law kid." So I roll my eyes and look at him and plainly say, "Skateboarding is NOT a crime..."

"Sk8boarding Ain't A Crime"
May this be a warning to all you cops out there that think skateboarding is some sort of a crime. Although it's not like any cops are gonna visit my site or anything... But hey, I think this video's hilarious.

The Birdman and Drew hookin' up in mid-air. This is what skateboarding is all about. It's not like other sports where you have teams that hate eachother (i.e. John Rocker vs. the New York Mets) Other skaters support other skaters, its a great thing. The one thing I hate is all the parents out there who hate their kids cuz they skate. Listen, not all of us are grungy stereotypical losers. Yeah, maybe skateboarders have been in the past, but some of us aren't like that. I just wish everyone would respect us as atheletes who are just playing their sport.
